What is NFT Commons?

NFT Commons is the first NFT-based copyright license standard made for creators who are sharing their works through NFTs. It is created to help creators easily choose the desired license type and imprint the license term on NFTs, without procedural complexity and costly legal expenses.

It will be introduced through the 1TM platform, then made available for anyone who is using NFT to share their works, inside or outside the 1TM platform.

NFT Commons is built upon CC 4.0 license, but unlike CC 4.0, it is not a public license where the copyright is licensed to the general public, but it is a holder-only license where the license is granted only to the token holder(s).

What is Creative Commons?

A Creative Commons license is one of several public copyright licenses that enable the free distribution of an otherwise copyrighted "work". A CC license is used when an author wants to give other people the right to share, use, and build upon a work that the author has created.

Who is this for?

It can be used by anyone from individual creators to large institutions who want to license their work to the asset token holders under copyright law in an easy and standardized way. From the token holder’s perspective, the presence of an NFT Commons license on a copyrighted work answers the question, β€œWhat can I do with this NFT?” Is this free? NFT Commons is free to use.
